A rebuild quote is not always the answer. Leaks, fluid and electrical faults are ruled out first, and if internal work is needed you see every option priced.

Internal slip or low fluid.
Fluid, a solenoid or a software update.
Torque converter or fluid condition.
A leak to fix before damage follows.
Transfer case or actuator problems.
Plenty of shifting problems are not inside the transmission. A leak, the wrong fluid level, a solenoid or a software update can cause slips and harsh shifts. Those are checked before any rebuild is mentioned.
If the problem is internal, the repair, rebuild and replacement are priced side by side with their timeframes, so a second opinion actually gives you a choice.
The repair is backed for 12 months or 12,000 miles, so the price you agree to is not the end of our responsibility for the work.
External fixes are usually the smaller bill. Rebuilds depend on how much has worn, and replacement units depend on what is available for your transmission. Ask any quote how the internal fault was confirmed.
When a rebuild has been quoted, ask how the fault was confirmed. Was the fluid checked for level and condition, were codes and shift data reviewed, and was the transmission road tested both cold and warm? Ask whether the price is for a rebuild in the shop, a remanufactured unit or a used one. These answers usually explain the difference between quotes and show whether a less expensive repair was considered first.
Describe when the problem shows up: cold or warm, cruising or under load, and in which gears. Mention towing and four-wheel-drive use. If you know when the fluid was last changed, or that it never has been, tell us that as well. Fluid history affects both the likely cause and the safest way to service the transmission now.
Only if low or old fluid caused it. Worn clutches will not be fixed by fluid.
Drive as little as possible. Slipping makes heat, and heat causes more wear.
Yes, along with transfer cases, tested and priced the same way.
Not always. Each has its place depending on the fault, the unit and availability. We price both where they apply and explain the difference in plain terms.
Read us the rebuild quote or describe the symptoms, and we will tell you what to test first.
